The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially started the JEE Mains 2026 registration process for Session 1.

The notice was released on 31 October 2025, inviting applications from students seeking admission to B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning programs at NITs, IIITs, and other top engineering colleges across India.

The online application window is open from 31 October 2025 to 27 November 2025 (till 9 PM) on the official website.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) is not just India’s most popular engineering entrance test for admission into NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and other government-recognised institutions. It also acts as a qualifying test for JEE Advanced (for IIT admissions).

About the Exam

  • JEE (Main) comprises two papers:
    • Paper 1 – for admission to B.E./B.Tech programs
    • Paper 2A – for B.Arch
    • Paper 2B – for B.Planning
  • The exam will be held twice a year:
    • Session 1: January 2026
    • Session 2: April 2026
  • The test will be conducted in 13 languages — English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

How to Apply for JEE Mains 2026 – Step-by-Step Guide

The application window is open from 31 October 2025 to 27 November 2025. Follow these easy steps carefully to avoid mistakes.

Step 1: Visit the Official Website

Go to https://jeemain.nta.nic.in.

On the homepage, click on “JEE (Main) 2026 Registration for Session 1” link.

Step 2: New Registration

  • Click on “New Candidate Registration” and read the instructions carefully.
  • Enter basic details — name, date of birth, gender, nationality, contact number, and email ID.
  • Create a password and security question for future logins.
  • You will receive an application number after registration — note it down safely.

Step 3: Fill Application Form

Log in using your application number and password.

Fill in all required information:

  • Personal details (name, category, address, etc.)
  • Educational qualifications (10th, 12th details, school name, board, year of passing)
  • Paper selection (B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Planning or combination)
  • Exam city preferences (select up to 4 cities in order of preference)

Step 4: Upload Documents

Step 5: Pay the Examination Fee

Pay the fee online via Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.

Fee varies by category and paper type (single or both sessions).

Save the payment receipt for future reference.

Step 6: Download Confirmation Page

After successful payment, your application form is submitted.

Download and print the confirmation page for your records.

You will also receive an email/SMS confirmation from NTA.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not submit multiple application forms.
  • Double-check your photo, signature, and category certificate.
  • Ensure your email ID and mobile number are active for alerts.
  • Enter accurate Aadhaar and academic details — errors may lead to rejection.
  • Submit before the deadline (27 November 2025); don’t wait till the last day.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Mains 2026

1. Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent in 2024 or 2025.
  • Students appearing for Class 12 in 2026 can also apply.
  • Required subjects for B.E./B.Tech:
    PhysicsMathematics, and Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Subject.
  • For B.Arch/B.Planning, relevant subject combinations apply as per NTA norms.

2. Age Limit

  • There is no age limit to appear for JEE Main.
  • However, institutes like NITs or CFTIs may have their own age rules.

3. Number of Attempts

  • Students can appear for JEE Main for three consecutive years.
  • Since it is conducted twice a year, a candidate can attempt it up to six times in total.

4. Nationality

  • Indian citizensOCI, and foreign nationals are eligible.

JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern

The exam will be held in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, except for the Drawing section in the B.Arch paper, which will be offline (pen and paper).
