The RRC Northern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2025–2026 is different from typical competitive exams, as there is no written exam at all.

Instead, candidates are selected purely on a merit-based system that considers their Class 10 marks and ITI trade scores.

Because of this, understanding the selection process, merit calculation method, eligibility rules, and document requirements is very important.

This article explains the Apprentice selection pattern in simple language so candidates know exactly how the final merit list is prepared.

What’s the Selection Process for RRC NR Apprentice 2025

  • For 2025-26, RRC NR has announced 4,116 Act Apprentice vacancies.
  • Important – there is NO written exam or interview. Selection is entirely merit-based.
  • The merit is calculated using a combined average of two marks:
    1. Class 10 (Matriculation/SSC) marks — candidate must have passed with at least 50% aggregate.
    2. ITI certificate marks (in relevant trade, from NCVT/SCVT-recognised institute). Most RRCs calculate merit using:
    3. (10th % + ITI %) / 2 = Final Merit Score

      Some regions use:

    • Weightage 50% to Class 10 marks
    • Weightage 50% to ITI marks
    • Or trade-wise/centre-wise formula (as per zone rules)
  • Both parts carry equal weightage (50% + 50%) when calculating merit.

Thus, there is no conventional “exam pattern & syllabus” as seen in other recruitments — there is no exam.

Instead, performance in earlier education (10th + ITI) determines selection. So your marks in school + ITI decide your selection.

Since There Is NO Exam — What is the Syllabus?

There is NO syllabus because NO written test happens.

But candidates must check:

✔ Educational Requirements

  • Class 10 (50% marks)
  • ITI certificate in relevant trade (NCVT/SCVT)

✔ Medicals

Candidates must pass the standard medical fitness rules.

✔ Trade Eligibility

ITI must match the trade applied for, such as:

  • Fitter
  • Welder
  • Electrician
  • Mechanic Diesel
  • Carpenter
  • Painter
  • Wireman
  • Electronics Mechanic
    …etc.

What “Study / Preparation” Means for You (Since No Exam)

  • Your 10th class & ITI mark sheets are correct and handy.
  • All required trade-certificate and other documents are in order (original + copy) for verification.
  • You choose the correct trade and unit while applying — since jobs are trade-specific (Mechanical workshop, Electrical dept, Signal, etc.) per official notification.

Important Points to Remember

  • This recruitment is for Act Apprentice training under Apprentices Act, 1961 — after training, nothing guarantees permanent employment.
  • If there is a tie between candidates (same combined marks), senior age or earlier passing year of 10th gets preference.
  • Fee: ₹100 — but SC / ST / PwBD / Women candidates are exempt.
  • No exam
  • No interview
  • No physical test
  • No syllabus
  • Selection purely based on marks + availability of seats in chosen division & trade.
